The Eternity of Memory painted by Dali
In his dream, ordinary objects are juxtaposed, twisted or deformed in a strange and unreasonable way. Dali's detailed descriptions of these objects are almost perfect, and they are usually placed in a very desolate but sunny landscape, which is reminiscent of his hometown Catalonia. Among these riddled images, the most famous one is probably Eternity of Memory (1931), in which a soft, flexible and melting watch stands against a horribly calm landscape. It shows some illusions of the painter when he recalls his childhood. An illusory world, like everything melted in the sun, is like a wax-like clock with paralysis. They are hung on branches, fall on unknown square volumes, and ride on embryonic objects, which makes people wonder and feel inexplicable. All this happened against the bleak and desolate background of Catalonia. This is an illusion, everything is unreasonable, but it shows the knowable objects. These soft clocks and watches have now become synonymous with surreal dream images in people's minds.
