In 214 BC, Qin unified Lingnan and established three counties: Nanhai, Guilin, and Xiangjun. Panyu was the head county of Nanhai County.
In 204 BC, Zhao Tuo established the Nanyue Kingdom in Nanhai County.
The plains in the Nansha region have not yet formed, and there are scattered hilly islands in the shallow sea. They are located at the southernmost end of the Pearl River estuary in Panyu County.
In the sixth year of Xianhe in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (331), Nanhai County was divided and Dongguan County was established. At the same time, the six counties of Bao'an, Anhuai, Xingning, Haifeng, Hai'an and Xinle were established.
The Nansha area is separated from Panyu County of Nanhai County and belongs to Baoan County of Dongguan County.

The sand and mud around the hilly islands in the shallow sea in the Nansha area have accumulated into flat areas, and some of them have been surrounded into fields. Longxue Island and other places still belong to Dongguan County.
In the 16th year of the Yuan Dynasty (1279), the village of Huangge was established and was called Huangqijiao Village, Guhai Township, Xiangshan County.
In the 14th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1381), Huangge was renamed Huangqijiao Village, Huangqidu, Xiangshan County.
Villages were opened successively in Dongguayu, Tangkeng, and Bantou in the Nansha area. Shatan was formed in the Wanqingsha and Yisha areas. The area south of Huangshan and Shandong began to be called Shabu, Nansha, etc., and was still under Dongguan. county.
In the Ming Dynasty, the sandan siltation around Longxue Island formed a continent.

Nansha District
During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty (1736-1796), Dongguan County was divided into five jurisdictions (two departments and three divisions). Part of Nansha Street today has been formed and is Dongguan County. Missing

In the fifteenth year of Daoguang's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1835), large areas of sand emerged on the water surface at the junction of Dongguan and Xiangshan and in front of Nansha Village.

Da'aosha, Lixinsha, Gangwasha and Shichuansha to the west of the Jiehe River belong to Xiangshan County; the northeast of the Jiehe River falls under the jurisdiction of Dongguan County.
By the early years of the Republic of China, Dongguan County owned Nansha Village, nearly 60,000 to 70,000 acres of sand and sand fields.

In April 1953, Zhuhai County was established, with Wanqingsha, Longxue Island, Shatou Township, Shazhong Township, and Shawei Township, together with Nansha, Changsha, Xiaohu, and Dahu separated from Dongguan County, and At the same time, Fengma Township, Xin'an Township, and Ping'an Township separated from Zhongshan County were placed under the jurisdiction of the Fourth District of Zhuhai County.

In October 1972, eight fishery brigades from Xinzao and Tanzhou People's Communes moved to Wanqingshawei to form Xinken Fishery Commune.
In January 1975, Panyu County was placed under the jurisdiction of Guangzhou City.
In 1978, Dagang Commune separated out five production brigades including Qianjin and Yisha, and Wanqingsha People's Commune separated out five production brigades including Feng Mayi and Dongsheng to form Hengli People's Commune.
In June 1978, the Wanqingsha State-owned Machinery Farm in Guangdong Province was renamed the Zhujiang Overseas Chinese Farm in Guangdong Province.
On December 20, 1983, the commune was withdrawn and restructured into districts.
On January 20, 1987, districts were removed and restructured into towns. The Nansha area includes five towns: Huangge, Wanqingsha, Xinken, Hengli, Nansha, and the Pearl River Overseas Chinese Farm in Guangdong Province.
In 1988, the Pearl River Overseas Chinese Farm in Guangdong Province was transferred from the province to Guangzhou City.

On March 18, 2002, Xinken Town was revoked and incorporated into Wanqingsha Town.
On January 1, 2003, the Pearl River Management Area was formally transferred to the management of the Guangzhou Nansha Development Zone Construction Headquarters.
On April 28, 2005, the State Council approved the adjustment of the administrative divisions of Guangzhou City and newly established Nansha District, Nansha Street in Panyu District, Wanqingsha Town, Hengli Town, Huangge Town, Miaonan Village in Lingshan Town, Parts of Qiyi Village and Miaoqing Village, and parts of Qingsheng Village, Shagongbao Village, and Shipai Village in Dongyong Town are included in Nansha District.
