Where does Su Shi eat litchi? Huizhou.

During the Northern Song Dynasty (A.D. 1094), 57-year-old Su Shi was demoted to Huizhou. In the wild land of Lingnan, although life is hard, the local litchi is cheap and delicious.

So Su Shi opened his belly and ate a lot. After eating, he also wrote a poem saying, "300 lychees a day, I don't want to grow up to be a Lingnan person."

If the average refrigerated litchi weighs about 26g and 300 lychees weigh about 15.6kg ... eating so many lychees a day can make Su Shi "poisoned" without dying.

Therefore, after Su Shi wrote this poem, later generations have been arguing for nearly a thousand years. So, when Su Shi wrote such a poem, was it a "clerical error" or a boast? If he is bluffing, what is his motive?

"Huizhou is a must"-Su Shi in the Northern Song Dynasty.

It's spring at four o'clock in Luofu Mountain, and tangerines and bayberries are new.

300 lychees a day, I will grow up to be a Lingnan person without hesitation.

Vernacular translation:

The climate under Luofu Mountain is very pleasant, with four seasons like spring. There are many kinds of fruits here. I just ate oranges (loquat) in April and fresh bayberry in May and June. You can eat delicious litchi in July and August.

If I can eat 300 lychees every day, I would like to stay in this place all my life and be a Lingnan person.

Some people say that Lingnan Hakka proverb says "one litchi has three fires". Su Shi got it wrong when he wrote this poem, so he wrote "300 lychees a day". However, this is impossible.

Because according to the meaning expressed in this poem, Su Shi can only write "300 lychees a day". The key to judging the truth lies in the last sentence of the poem, "Don't hesitate to be a Lingnan person".
