Many branches, alternate leaves, odd-numbered pinnate compound leaves, leaflets nearly sessile, oval leaves, and smooth leaf surfaces.

The terminal or axillary flowers are umbel-shaped, with white flowers and a strong fragrance that can spread far. It is said that the fragrance can still be smelled seven miles away, so it is called "Qili Xiang". After flowering, it can also produce red berries, and the ripe fruits are edible. The mosquito repellent effect is very good. Qilixiang is a tropical ornamental plant, mostly used for garden hedges and bonsai.
