First of all, let me introduce my personal background: I graduated from an English college with four passes and eight passes in junior college.
Vocabulary 10,00, part-time English teacher, good at word accumulation and oral pronunciation. Now I insist on reading and watching American TV series every day to continuously improve my vocabulary.
In my personal learning process, I have gone from "memorizing words is so painful" to "the happiest thing every day is memorizing words". So, someone may ask, how do you do it?
The reason why many people think that memorizing words is difficult, do not want to memorize, and is painful is because they have not found a suitable method.
Just like a sick person, no matter how good or expensive the medicine is, once it is used incorrectly, it will be useless and even life-threatening.
Of course, memorizing words is not so scary, but if you master the wrong method, the effect will be greatly reduced.
My classmates often ask me: "Teacher, can I learn English well without memorizing words?" The answer is undoubtedly "no".
For English learners, a word is like a brick in a whole building.
It looks inconspicuous, but it is indispensable.
If a piece is missing, the entire building may be unstable or even risk collapse.
To learn English, if you don't have a certain vocabulary, you won't be able to learn English well.
Not to mention conquering listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating.
Today’s article systematically summarizes the methods and problems of word memory, which is mainly divided into 2 parts: 1. Common problems of word memory 2. Effective methods to improve vocabulary 1. Common problems of word memory Many students asked me why words are always missing
If you can't remember it, or forget it after a few days, it's because you use the wrong method to memorize words. Next, I will sort out the common problems in memorizing words.
Problems: 1. Start memorizing letter A from a word book, but always stay at abandon (just kidding) 2. Can’t read the phonetic symbols to read words, just memorize them by rote 3. I still don’t recognize the words I memorized today, the next day 4
.I have memorized the meaning of a word, and the meaning changes in another context. 5. I have memorized a lot of words, but I can’t figure out how to use them in writing. The above are problems that many students will encounter more or less, and these problems are ultimately related to learning methods.
Question, next I will introduce to you the college method of memorizing words, so that you can change your "hate" to "love" for words.
2. How to memorize words with high quality First of all, you need to know which part of the process of memorizing words you made a mistake in order to correct yourself correctly.
I divide word memory into 4 parts: reading words, spelling words, silent words, and using words.
Many people say that they do not have much vocabulary and cannot remember words because they did not do these four steps well or in the wrong order.
Next, I will introduce to you my method of over 10,000 vocabulary words, so that you can memorize words with twice the result with half the effort!
(1) Repeated memory method The first method is the repeated memory method. Whether it is memorizing words or memorizing texts, we need to follow our own memory ability.
Unless you have a genius photographic memory, your memory for any period is limited, and the same goes for word memory.
Therefore, we need to follow the memory curve of the human brain and make reasonable use of time to recite and memorize.
Let me tell you how to memorize words reasonably according to the memory curve and complete the task efficiently.
First, choose any vocabulary book. If you are preparing for CET-4 or CET-6 or IELTS or TOEFL, choose the corresponding scrambled vocabulary book.
There are probably dozens of lists in a book. Suppose the vocabulary book you memorize has 30 lists. Each list has 100 words, which averages to 10 pages per page, which is about 10 pages.
The first pass of memorization requires the standard to remember as much as possible the Chinese definition and the characteristics of the word, such as adapt, adapt; adapt.
Both Chinese definitions must be roughly remembered. Secondly, it must be clear whether the word is long or short.
In this way, it takes about 5 minutes to memorize 10 words. At this time, before proceeding to the next page of words, return to the first word on this page and start reviewing. It only takes more than ten seconds, but it is very important for consolidating memory.
An indispensable step.
Follow the same method for the next few pages. After 30 minutes, stop reciting new words and start reviewing from the first page. With the memory of the previous two times, this review only takes a few minutes.
Then use the same method to complete the entire list, which takes about 1 hour.
The best time to memorize words is in the morning. Spend 3 hours a day memorizing 3 lists. Start reviewing at night before going to bed. The review time will be greatly shortened, so before going to bed is the time to consolidate memory.
After completing the task on the first day, start the second review every 2 days, and then start to lengthen the time, and review again every 4 days, 7 days, and 15 days.
After completing all the review, the review time for each list every day will be shortened to about 15 minutes, and the memory of the words will be greatly deepened.
Finally, the process of reciting words can vary from person to person and can be adjusted according to one's actual situation. Some long words that are difficult to remember can be memorized multiple times.
