Going to Mohe to see the Northern Lights theoretically starts from September to March of the following year. The intervening months are the best time to see the aurora. It is difficult to see the aurora during the day, and you can only see it late at night. Generally speaking, the aurora appears from 11 pm to 2 am the next morning. Sometimes it lasts for an hour or two, and sometimes it flashes by. There are many ways to enjoy the aurora. If you're an energetic explorer, ride a dog sled and let the Northern Lights light your way. If you prefer a cozy exotic feel, try the Wilderness Lookout. Or drive a snowmobile or snowplane to a comfortable lodge, explore during the day, and enjoy local venison dinner with the Northern Lights at night, and taste Arctic char or small barracuda from the glacial lake. You can even soak in the open-air hot springs while watching the auroras change colors in the sky. Remember to prepare more warm clothes. The low temperatures at polar nights are by no means easy. A protective hat, thick gloves, scarf, thick socks, close-fitting sweaters, woolen pants and a thickened down coat are all indispensable items.
