Shanmen Town is located in the west of Pingyang County, 44 kilometers away from the county seat, with Shuitou in the east, Nanyan in the south, Wencheng in the northwest, and Wenping Highway running through the whole territory. The town covers an area of 105.94 square kilometers, governs 5/kloc-0 administrative villages and 3 residential areas, with a total population of 59,300. It has successively won the titles of "Civilized Town in Zhejiang Province", "Ecological Town in Zhejiang Province" and "Strong Sports Town in Zhejiang Province". Shanmen Town is an old revolutionary base area and is known as "Yan 'an, Zhejiang". It is the activity center of the advance division of the Red Army of workers and peasants in early China, the seat of the temporary provincial party committee of Fujian-Zhejiang border region and the Zhejiang provincial party committee, and one of the revolutionary bases in southern Zhejiang founded by Liu Ying, Su Yu and Ceng Shan.
