Analysis of study abroad application and employment prospects for integrated marketing majors

Shared tutor: Alice Master: Northwestern University, majoring in integrated marketing (ranked No. 1 in the U.S.) Undergraduate: Completed studies in two and a half years, exchanged for 1 semester in Tokyo, and graduated in 3 years High school: Enrolled in an international school and completed American high school in one year

Students who are familiar with marketing and have completed a three-year course and completed one year of AP credits from an American university in advance should know: Advertising is actually more liberal arts or even more art-oriented.

So my undergraduate degree in advertising was under the School of Communication, and I was the only Chinese in our program at that time. Since studying liberal arts abroad would be quite stressful, generally people rarely choose liberal arts when they study abroad, and advertising is right for me.

The requirements for writing will also be relatively high.

So after I finished my undergraduate professional courses, I began to think about my master's degree, because I didn't really want to develop in the liberal arts.

At that time, through the introduction of my school professor, I discovered the IMC major of Northwestern University. It is very comprehensive and has many choices.

And I felt that if I could have some data analysis skills, it would be a very good choice for future employment, so I applied to Northwest University.

The marketing programs of most schools actually require students to have an advance understanding of this major.

Therefore, whether it is your performance in the document, your interview process, or your future study process, his requirements for your professional relevance are relatively high.

MKT major introduction: Take IMC as an example. It has six professional branches, which are quantitative analysis projects. Now many American universities have begun to have a trend: many schools have gradually shifted some traditional marketing projects to quantitative analysis majors.

.

Some schools have directly converted marketing programs into data analysis programs, which shows that this is actually a major trend.

So if some students study science as an undergraduate, they actually have an advantage.

Because relatively speaking, if you study science, it will be easier to apply for a master's degree.

(My own summary of the six professional branches of MKT) 01. DataAnalytics The first and most important one: DataAnalytics data analysis major.

This major mainly emphasizes employment issues. If some students have a very clear goal: they want to stay in the United States, or they want to work for a few years before returning to China, then they don’t need to consider other majors and directly apply for this program clearly.

That's it.

Relatively speaking, the chances of enrolling Chinese students in this major are relatively high.

And when it comes to employment, admissions officers also prefer to admit Chinese students.

Basically, as long as you apply, there will still be opportunities for interviews, which actually means that you have a high chance of getting the offer.

When talking about this professional branch, we must mention its related majors and basic courses: calculus and statistics.

If you have studied calculus or statistics as an undergraduate, it is actually very advantageous to apply for these two majors.

And now many quantitative analysis majors will directly list calculus and statistics as two required courses on their official websites.

Even if you did not study these two courses as an undergraduate, if you want to apply for the MKT program, you need to use additional methods to achieve your goal.

For example: some schools will directly provide online courses for us to study, so we must complete these two credits before we can apply for this program.

It can be seen how important these two courses are for the professional branch of data analysis.

Therefore, students who want to apply can start preparing for relevant courses now.

02. The second professional branch of BrandStrategy is BrandStrategy brand strategy, which is actually a core of IMCbranding.

Because foreign countries pay more attention to how to build a brand, unlike in China where they may only teach you some relatively limited marketing promotion methods or some advertising methods.

Like many big European luxury brands, they are able to stand at the top of this brand because they have historical precipitation and cultural accumulation. They integrate these into the brand and become brand elements, thereby achieving the purpose of shaping the brand.

Then this professional branch teaches you how to build a corporate brand.

As for Strategy, it must be based on previous data analysis.

But we all know that the most important thing in learning marketing is the thinking of "consumer core".

So after doing market analysis and consumer analysis before, we can get some insights and analysis.

Then based on this analysis, we can reach the planning part.

Therefore, DataAnalytics and BrandStrategy are closely related and can be regarded as the two core contents of marketing.

Generally speaking, if you apply for a marketing project and choose courses in the future, these two are the professional branches that you must choose. Only by studying these two can you learn the essence of marketing.

Speaking of BrandStrategy and DataAnalytics, another related major is involved: Psychology.
