Information on Shenzhou 5, 6, 7 and 8

1. The Shenzhou-5 manned spacecraft is the fifth in the "Shenzhou" series of spacecrafts and the first manned spacecraft launched by China. It was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center at 9:00 on October 15, 2003, sending astronaut Yang Liwei and a Chinese flag with special significance into space. It returned at 6:23 on October 16, 2003. This spacecraft marks China becoming the third country to send humans into space after the former Soviet Union (Russia) and the United States. It marks another milestone in my country's aerospace technology.

Launch time: 09:00 on October 15, 2003

Return time: 6:23 on October 16, 2003

2. Shenzhou The No. 6 manned spacecraft is one of China's Shenzhou spacecraft series. There is not much difference in appearance between "Shenzhou 6" and "Shenzhou 5". It is still a three-cabin structure with a propulsion module, a return module, and an orbital module. The weight is basically maintained at about 8 tons. It is carried by the Long March 2 F type. The rocket is launched.

The Shenzhou-6 spacecraft is China's second spacecraft to carry astronauts, and it is also China's first manned spacecraft to carry out a "multi-person flight" mission. This is also the 243rd human space flight in the world.

Launch time: 9:00 am on October 12, 2005

Return time: 04:33 on October 17, 2005

3. Shenzhou 7 No. 1, the launch base is Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, and the landing site is Amugulang Prairie in Siziwang Banner. Starting from Shenzhou 7, our country entered the second phase of manned spaceflight project. During this stage, scientific goals such as astronauts' extravehicular travel and space rendezvous and docking will be achieved one after another. Prepare for the next step of building a space station.

Launch time: September 25, 2008

Return time: September 29, 2008

4. Shenzhou-8 spacecraft is China's "Shenzhou" "The eighth spacecraft in the series, the spacecraft has a three-cabin structure, consisting of an orbital module, a return module, and a propulsion module. Shenzhou 8 is an improved spacecraft with a total length of 9 meters, a maximum diameter of 2.8 meters, and a take-off mass of 8,082 kilograms. The Shenzhou-8 spacecraft has undergone major technical improvements. After it was launched, it docked with Tiangong-1 and became a small space station.

It was successfully launched into space by the improved "Long March 2" F Yaoba rocket at 5:58:10 on November 1, 2011. Two days after liftoff, the "Shenba" conducted space rendezvous and docking with the previously launched "Tiangong-1" target aircraft. After 12 days of operation of the assembly, the Shenzhou-8 spacecraft detached from Tiangong-1 and conducted rendezvous and docking tests with it again. This marked that my country has successfully broken through a series of key technologies such as space rendezvous and docking and assembly operation. At 18:30 on November 16, 2011, the Shenzhou 8 spacecraft successfully separated from the Tiangong-1 target aircraft, and the return capsule returned to the ground at about 19:00 on November 17, 2011.

Launch time: 5:58:10 on November 1, 2011

Return time: 19:32:30 on November 17, 2011

The Shenzhou spacecraft is self-developed by China, has completely independent intellectual property rights, and is a spacecraft that meets or is superior to international third-generation manned spacecraft technology. The Shenzhou spacecraft uses a three-chamber section, which is composed of a return capsule, an orbital capsule, a propulsion module and an additional section, and is composed of 13 subsystems.

Compared with the third-generation foreign spacecraft, the Shenzhou spacecraft has the characteristics of a high starting point and the ability to stay in orbit and utilize it. The Shenzhou series manned spacecraft were launched by the Long March 2F rocket specially developed for it. The launch base is the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center and the recovery location is the Siziwang Banner Space Landing Site in central Inner Mongolia.
