Historical evolution

Dong'an County was established in the third year of Wu Yong'an's reign (260) in the Three Kingdoms period. In the third year of Taikang reign of Jin Dynasty (282 AD), Jin'an County was changed to Jin'an County. In the Southern Dynasties, Liang was renamed Liang'an County; Tianjian (502-519) analyzed that the southern part of Jin'an County was placed as Nan'an County in order to maintain the stability of southern Fujian. In the ninth year of Kaihuang's reign in the Sui Dynasty (589), the county was changed into a county (it was renamed Jinping County, Jin'an County, and Liang'an County in the Five Dynasties), and its jurisdiction included present-day Putian, Jinjiang, Hui'an, Tong'an, Anxi, and Yongchun. In the fifth year of Wude (622) of Tang Dynasty, Fengzhou was established. In the first year of Zhenguan (627), Fengzhou was merged into Quanzhou (the state governs today's Fuzhou). In the ninth year of Zhenguan (635), Fengzhou was merged into Quanzhou (today's Fuzhou). At the beginning of Si Shengchu (684), Nan'an, Putian and Longxi counties were separated to form Wurong Prefecture, and Fengzhou, the seat of Nan'an County, was governed by Wurong Prefecture (so Nan'an was also called Wurong). In the first year of Jiushi (700), it was moved to present-day Quanzhou, and Fengzhou was still governed by Nan'an County. After the Five Dynasties, Nan'an County successively belonged to Qingyuanjun, Pinghaijun, Quanzhou Road, Quanzhoufu, and Xiamen Road. In July 1937, the county seat was moved to its present location (there is another theory: the county seat was moved to Ximei Town in 1936). Liberated on August 14, 1949, it belongs to Quanzhou Prefecture, Jinjiang Prefecture (region) and Quanzhou City.
