Main Harms of Vegetable Bugs

The cabbage bug Eurydema dominulus (Scopoli) belongs to the order Hemiptera, family of bugs, also known as the Hebei cabbage bug. There are also Yunnan beet bug (E.pulchra Westwood), Gai's beet bug (E.gebliri Kolenati), Xinjiang beet bug [E.fistiva (L.)], kale beet bug (E.olrracer L.) and so on.

The cabbage bugs harm cruciferous vegetables such as kale, cauliflower, cabbage, radish, rape and mustard. It sucks plant sap with adult and caterpillar, and especially likes to suck young shoots, young stems, young leaves, flower buds and young pods. Its saliva has a destructive effect on plant tissues, affecting growth, leaving yellowish-white to slightly black spots on the pierced area. Seedlings affected at the cotyledon stage wilt or even die; those affected at the flowering stage fail to set pods or hoe seeds. In addition, it can also spread soft rot disease.
