Genius Gunman is based on the 2014 Asian test center cheating case.
On December 2, 2014, the SAT Asian test center was confirmed to have leaked questions and cheated, and all the scores of the candidates involved were nullified, involving dozens of education and training institutions.
The U.S. daily World Journal reported that in response to a possible leak of questions on the SAT exam held on October 11, 2014, in countries in the Asian region, the Educational Testing Service (ETS), which administers the SAT, confirmed that there was a leak of questions and fraud after an investigation. As usual, the SAT scores of the candidates involved in the case were invalidated, but they will still have the opportunity to take the test in the future.

The climax of the movie, in which the heroine uses jet lag to cheat, also stems from the most staggering part of the story. Details of the series of cheating incidents came to light, stemming from the discovery by SAT test proctors in the Thai district at the time that the cheating candidates had smuggled into the test center cell phones full of standardized answers to the day's test questions!
After investigation all the answers came from the same test held in Australia earlier that day. The unscrupulous training organization took advantage of the four-hour time difference between Australia and Thailand to make the answers to the Australian test questions in advance and provide them to the cheaters.
The bag of papers at this test preparation (training) center also contained visas, airline tickets, and the option of whether to receive the answers on their cell phones in the morning before the test.
