Chagan Lake, formerly known as Chaganpao and Hanhe, means "Chagan Naoer" in Mongolian, meaning a white and holy lake. Most of them are located in the former Guoerluosi Mongolian Autonomous County in the northwest of Jilin Province, bordering Gan 'an County in the west and Da 'an City in the north. Located in the water network area where Nenjiang River meets Huolin River, it is a dammed lake at the tail of Huolin River.

From the Yuan Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty, rivers and swamps were dotted around this area, whitebait shuttled, water plants were abundant, and geese and ducks lived in groups. The trees along the coast are lush, the fields are lush and picturesque. It was the fishing and hunting place of the emperors of Liao, Jin and Yuan Dynasties.
On August 1 2007, Chagan Lake was approved as a national nature reserve by the State Council. The fishing and hunting culture marked by the winter fishing in Chagan Lake has also become one of its cultural heritages.
Eight scenic spots in Chagan Lake area:
(1) Chagan Lake Light: Chagan Lake is known as the "Pearl of the North", with clear water quality, vast smoke waves, waterfowl reeds, magnificent, quiet and desolate landscape, which gives people a shocking aesthetic feeling.
(2) Grassland Paradise: Guoerluosi Grassland is located in Songnen alluvial plain with a flat and vast terrain. Festival activities such as Nadam Convention, Fire Sacrifice, New Year's Day, Aobao Sacrifice, Genghis Khan Festival and Dragon Boat Festival Hunting Day are colorful and attract tourists.
(3) Reed ripples: Chagan Lake is sparkling, reed ripples, and smoke and water are blurred. The reed in Chagan Lake is not only an important raw material for papermaking, but also an important shelter for birds and a spectacular tourist landscape.
(4) A hundred birds contend: Chagan Lake is an important wetland reserve in Jilin Province, a habitat for birds, and also a migration and transit place. Xindianpao is located in the core area of Chagan Lake Nature Reserve, with reeds and lush water plants. When birds breed and migrate, hundreds of birds gather here, which is called bird paradise.
(5) Winter fishing wonders: Chagan Lake is rich in dozens of fish such as herring, carp and silver carp.
