The traditional festivals of my country’s ethnic minorities include: Dai Water Splashing Festival, Mongolian Naadam Convention, March 3 Song Festival, Xibo Smear Festival, and Daughter’s Day.
1. Water Splashing Festival of the Dai Nationality
The Water Splashing Festival of the Dai Nationality is also known as the "Buddha Bathing Festival" and in Dai language is called "Sangkanbimai" (meaning New Year). It is held in the Nadhong area of ??Xishuangbanna The Dai people also call this festival "Shanghan" and "Shangjian". Both names are derived from Sanskrit, which means turnover, change and transfer. It means that the sun has been moving around the zodiac for one week and the transition to the new year has begun. .
The Water Splashing Festival is usually held in mid-June of the Dai calendar (about ten days before and after the Qingming Festival in the lunar calendar). It is one of the most solemn traditional festivals in Xishuangbanna. Its content includes folk activities, art performances, economic and trade exchanges, etc. Specific festival activities include water splashing, wading, dragon boat racing, Buddha bathing, chanting, Zhangha singing, peacock dance, white elephant dance performances, etc.
2. Mongolian Naadam Conference
The "Nadam" conference, held every year in July and August during the fattening season of livestock, is a grand annual festival for the Mongolian people. "Naadam" means entertainment or games in Mongolian. At the "Nadam" Conference, there are thrilling horse racing, wrestling, admirable archery, competitive chess skills, and beautiful singing and dancing.
Before the conference, men, women and children, old and young, rode cars and horses, dressed in festive costumes, and came from all directions to participate in the competition and watch, regardless of the distance. Colorful flags fluttered, people cheered and horses neighed, and the usually peaceful grassland suddenly turned into a bustling colorful city.
3. March 3rd Song Festival
March 3rd is not only the traditional song festival of the Zhuang people, but also a traditional festival of the Han, Yao, Dong, Miao and other ethnic minorities in Guangxi. During the festival, there are traditional dragon and lion performances, reed playing hall, Dong folk songs, Liujia folk songs, colorful tunes, Gui opera, Dong films, Dong operas, traditional costume stories, bonfire Duoye party and other performance activities.
In addition, there are performances such as tea tasting with thousands of people, cockfighting, and bird fighting, as well as food exhibitions such as strange stone exhibitions, ethnic costume exhibitions, trade fairs, and Dong scented oil tea. The Yao compatriots in Gaolin Village, Yaozhai, Fangcheng District, Guangxi, across the river from Vietnam, hold grand activities every year on March 3rd.
4. Xibo Smear Festival
Smear Festival is a festival of the Xibe people in Xinjiang. Every year on the early morning of the 16th day of the first lunar month, people smear each other's faces with black eyes to pray to the God of Grains not to spread smut to the world, to ensure a bumper wheat harvest and to protect the people's safety.
5. Daughter's Day
Chinese Valentine's Day is also Daughter's Day, a traditional festival in my country. There is also Daughter's Day that is popular in Guangyuan, Sichuan. On this night, women sewed needles and begged for skills, prayed for good fortune and longevity, and worshiped the Seventh Sister. The ceremony was pious and solemn, with flowers, fruits, and red flowers on display, and all kinds of furniture and utensils were exquisite, small, and attractive.
