There is a beautiful legend about eating black rice in long summer. Manglietia's mother suffered a lot in the hungry ghost road of eighteen layers of hell. After studying Taoism, Mulian was allowed to visit his mother in the underworld, but every time he prepared food, he was robbed by hungry ghost jailers along the way. Manglietia tried to feed her hungry mother, so she often wandered in the mountains.
One day (at that time, it was the eighth day of the fourth lunar month), in despair and irritability, Mulian accidentally picked leaves from the dwarf tree beside her on the mountain and put them in her mouth to chew bored. She found that the leaves of this tree are fragrant and delicious, and the juice is black. Manglietia thought that if she soaked rice in this leaf juice and cooked it into black rice for her mother, she would not be taken away by the jailer. So Manglietia took the picked leaves home, mashed them, soaked rice in leaf juice, boiled them into black rice and gave them to her mother. Sure enough, the hungry ghost jailer stopped fighting, and Manglietia's mother finally had enough to eat. Mulian finally saved her mother from the hungry ghost road.
Another theory is that Song sent Yang to prison because he was framed by traitors. His aunt, Sister Yang Bajie, delivered food and was often detained by the jailer to eat it. So Yang Jie came up with a way to cook it with black rice leaves, and the jailer was afraid to eat it when he saw this black food.
In fact, the custom of black rice has a long history. It was called "green rice" in ancient times, and it was not limited to Hangzhou. In other places in Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Jiangxi, there is also the custom of eating black rice in the long summer.

The practice of black rice:
Ingredients: 500g glutinous rice, 200g ebony leaves, appropriate amount of water, bacon, corn, diced bamboo shoots, carrots and peas.
