Because of the environment:
LandformsQingdao is a hilly coastal city, with the terrain high in the east and low in the west, rising in the north and south, and sunken in the center. Among them, mountains account for about 15.5% of the city's total area, hills for 25.1%, plains for 37.7% and depressions for 21.7%. The city's coasts are categorized into three basic types, namely, mountain-based rocky shores, mountain-port silty chalky sandy shores and bedrock sandy shores. In the shallow sea, there are underwater shoals, modern underwater deltas and sea-eroded plains.
The geotectonic location of Qingdao is the northeastern edge of the Jiaonan Rise and the south-central part of the JiaoLai Depression, a secondary tectonic unit of the New Huaxia Rise. The entire Paleozoic stratigraphy and part of the Mesozoic stratigraphy are missing in the area, but the volcanic rocks of the Cretaceous Qingshan Formation are developed and widely exposed in the city.
