One of the melon varieties, the fruit shape is olive-shaped, bullet-shaped, with or without reticulation, also known as Xinjiang melon, snow melon and Gonggua, which is the most famous in Hami, Xinjiang, so it is called Hami melon.
Hami melon likes plenty of sunshine and large temperature difference between day and night, which can give full play to photosynthesis during the day, while the respiratory consumption at night is small, so it has high sugar content, extremely sweet taste and a taste of Kazakhstan. There are reticulation on the surface of pericarp, green, white, orange and other varieties of pulp, which are mainly produced in Hami, Turpan, Shanshan and other places in Xinjiang with heavy rainfall and large temperature difference between day and night.
Hami melon is rich in variety resources. According to different maturity, it can be divided into early-maturing, middle-maturing and late-maturing varieties. The early and middle ripe ones are called summer melons, and the late ripe ones are called wax gourd. Early-maturing varieties mainly include Huangdanzi, Naxigan, Yibao Sugar, Baozi Keqie, Shitian 40 1, etc., which are characterized by thin skin and fine meat and rich fragrance.
At present, due to the convenient transportation, it can be exported to all parts of the country, so the output is constantly increasing.
Origin environment
The Turpan-Hami basin, located in the eastern part of Xinjiang, is distributed in the east-west direction, facing the Tarim basin and Junggar basin across the mountains from north to south, and surrounded by mountains, which is a typical continental arid climate.
Due to the influence of the mountains in the northwest, the humid airflow is blocked from going south, resulting in extreme dryness, little rain, large evaporation, hot summer, cold winter, large temperature difference between day and night, long illumination time, good atmospheric transparency, effective accumulated temperature over 4000℃, annual precipitation less than 40 mm, and evaporation over 3000 mm, which is very beneficial to the growth and development of melons and sugar accumulation.
Unique climatic conditions have cultivated unique Xinjiang melons. The sweetness of cantaloupe is so high that its secret lies in this special climate environment.
