The scientific name of the commonly known “hand stinging insect” on walnut trees is yellow thorn moth. In recent years, it has developed from a minor pest to a major pest of walnut trees.

Early July to late August is the peak period for the occurrence of yellow thorn moth larvae. Before the third instar, the larvae gather in one place and feed on the lower epidermis and mesophyll of the leaves. They do not eat the upper epidermis, forming transparent round spots. The leaves are mesh-shaped; in the 4th instar, the larvae feed on the leaves to form holes. The larvae in the 5th and above instars can eat all the leaves, leaving only the veins and the leaves are mesh-like.

Chili seeds are the larvae of the yellow-thorned moth. If they come into contact with trees accidentally during the management and picking process, they can easily be stung. Although it is not life-threatening, the "burning" pain is unbearable. In severe cases, I can't sleep well at night.

Post-sting treatment

1. Immediately after the sting, tape the injured area with tape to remove the fine hairs that have penetrated the skin. If there is sweat on the injured area, use a paper towel to absorb it first and then stick it on again. This is the most direct method.

Take out the green (or green) one and mash it, and apply it on the sting to get rid of the sting immediately. Don't touch the black one, that's where his venom is.

4. After being stung, you can apply some toothpaste on the affected area. After applying the toothpaste, the affected area will feel cool and the pain will be relieved in about 5 minutes. After the toothpaste solidifies quickly, it will take half an hour to an hour. Left and right, peel off the solidified toothpaste to take out the stinger.
