Burger King
McDonald's has a jester, one of its main competitors, in the form of Burger King's royal character. The first Burger King restaurant, based in Miami, featured a cartoon portrait of a chubby king reclining on a throne caused by a giant hamburger.
Subsequent campaigns saw Burger King evolve even more from a cartoon character to a real-life character, with the red-bearded King making frequent television and in-store appearances. In 2003, Miami ad agency Crispin Porter created a new King image for Burger King, finding an old-school King mask on the eBay site and creating a mask named "King of Terror," which was a huge hit with the Internet.
