Referring to Article 4 of the Regulations of Shanghai Municipality on the Administration of Domestic Waste, domestic waste in this Municipality is classified according to the following standards:
(1) Recyclable materials refer to domestic wastes such as waste paper, waste plastics, waste glass products, waste metal and waste fabrics. Suitable for recycling;
(2) Hazardous wastes refer to domestic wastes such as waste batteries, waste lamps, waste medicines, waste paints and their containers that cause direct or potential harm to human health or the natural environment;
(3) Wet garbage, that is, perishable garbage, refers to the domestic garbage of perishable substances such as kitchen garbage, leftovers, expired foods, melons, skins and stones, flowers and plants, and Chinese medicine residues;
(4) Dry garbage, that is, other garbage, refers to other domestic garbage except recyclables, harmful waste and wet garbage.
The specific classification standards of domestic waste can be adjusted according to the level of economic and social development, the characteristics of domestic waste and the needs of disposal and utilization.

Referring to Article 33 of the Regulations of Shanghai Municipality on the Management of Domestic Waste, harmful waste, wet waste and dry waste disposal units (hereinafter referred to as disposal units) shall receive domestic waste according to the classification standards, and if they find that the domestic waste they put in does not meet the classification requirements, they shall be required to make corrections; Refuses to correct, can refuse to accept, and shall report to the municipal or district greening department, which shall coordinate in time.
Harmful waste, wet garbage and dry garbage shall be classified, utilized and disposed in the following ways:
(1) Hazardous wastes are treated at high temperature and chemically decomposed for harmless disposal;
(two) the wet garbage through biochemical treatment, biogas production, composting and other ways for resource utilization or harmless disposal;
(3) Dry garbage should be treated harmlessly by incineration.
