This product is infected (or artificially inoculated) with the 4th to 5th instar larvae of Bombyx mori L. The lethal dry body of Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill. During spring and autumn production, silkworms infected with Beauveria bassiana will be dried. This product is slightly cylindrical in shape, with many bends and shrinkage. Length 2~5cm, diameter 0.5~0.7cm. The surface is grayish-yellow, covered with white powdery aerial hyphae and conidia. The head is round, there are 8 pairs of legs, the body segments are obvious, and the tail is slightly bifurcated. It is hard and brittle, easy to break, has a flat cross-section, white outer layer, and 4 bright brown or bright black silk gland rings in the middle. The smell is slightly fishy. It tastes slightly salty.

Identification

The powder of this product is gray-brown or grey-brown. The mycelium is nearly colorless, slender and curled and tangled in the body wall. The tracheal wall fragments are slightly curved or arc-shaped, with brown or dark brown spiral filaments. The surface of the epidermal tissue has a grid-like wrinkled texture and small spikes formed by texture protrusions. There are round hair fossae with yellow edges; the setae are yellow or yellow-brown, with a smooth surface and slightly thicker walls. Most of the undigested mulberry leaf tissues contain calcium oxalate cluster crystals or square crystals.

Processing

Bomby silkworms are washed and dried to remove impurities. Stir-fried silkworms: Take clean silkworms and fry them according to the bran frying method (Appendix II D) until the surface turns yellow.

The drug

is the whole body of the larvae of the animal Bombyx mori L. infected with Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill. Produced in Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Guangxi, Sichuan and other places. Pharmacology

Medicinal uses

Precautions for use

Adverse reactions

Oral administration of Bombyx mori can cause allergic reactions, such as acne-like rashes and allergic rashes, which will disappear after stopping the drug. A few patients have reactions such as dryness of the oropharynx, nausea, decreased appetite, and drowsiness. Since Bombyx mori has anticoagulant effect, it should be used with caution in patients with thrombocytopenia, coagulation disorder and bleeding tendency. Both zombie silkworms and zombie pupae contain ammonium oxalate, which can be decomposed into ammonia when entering the body. It should be used with caution in patients with hepatic coma.
