How to choose Lua sequins:
1. Spoon shaped sequins
The traditional spoon shaped sequins are similar to the spoons that we use for eating, and it is said that this kind of bait was invented because someone was inspired by seeing spoons being chased and bitten by carnivorous fish when they were dropped into a lake, so the spoon shaped sequins are one of the oldest lures. The spoon sequin's swim is characterized by a side-to-side wobble, a spin, or an up-and-down flop, depending on the angler's maneuvering technique. Spoon shaped sequins have a large range of motion and relatively high stimulation to the fish, belonging to the reactive stimulation lure, and often appear to be cut off when entering the water.
2. Slant Cut Ribbon
Nowadays, the slant cut ribbons are widely used. They are generally thin at the top and thick at the bottom, with the center of gravity leaning downward, which is convenient for casting, and it is the first choice among the ribbons when the fishing environment requires long-distance casting. The front end of the slant cut sequin is generally designed with a curved shape, which makes it sway more in the water and fall gently, attracting more attention from the fish and increasing the possibility of the fish finding the bait and attacking the bait.
3. Willow Leaf Shaped Sequins
As the name suggests, the sequins are shaped like willow leaves and are relatively large in size, which makes them unfavorable for long-distance casting because of the relatively large wind resistance when casting. The swimming posture in the water mainly imitates the frightened small fish, mostly rotating and swinging, which is an irresistible lure for predatory fish.
4. Spinning sequins
The spinning sequin is actually a kind of combination sequin, which is made of a weighted lead and one or two sequins. The swimming posture in the water mainly consists of a high-speed spinning of the sequins, which attracts the attention of the fish, but also has a large wind resistance, which is not conducive to long-distance casting.
5. Composite Spinning Sequins
The essence of the spinning sequins, with the addition of the glue group and soft bait tail hook, can be said to be an upgraded version of the spinning sequins. Composite spinning sequins underwater movement and light reflection, more rich layers, tail hooks can be hung curly-tailed maggot or T-tailed fish and other soft baits, easy to carry out a more detailed search.
It should be noted that, due to the rotating characteristics of the sequins, it is easy to twist the fishing line when tethered directly to the line, so it is recommended to use with the sequins with special eight-ring rings, which can effectively avoid the twisting of the fishing line. The use of a special ring can effectively avoid the twisting of the fishing line, and make the sequins swim more naturally in the water.
Second, the control of sequins
The sequins can effectively search the whole layer of the bait, the control method is basically the same as that of the VIB: one is to retrieve it at a fixed or variable speed; the second is to retrieve it by jumping; and the third is to combine the first two points with flexible adaptations.
After casting the sequins into the water, judge the sequins to arrive at the desired water level and reel in the line at a constant or variable speed, and in the process of reeling in the line, you can jump the tip of the rod or pause for a short period of time, so as to give the sequins a richer posture. In the process of recovery, the depth of the sequins is determined by two factors: First, the speed of the reel, the faster the bait in the water will be closer to the surface, and vice versa, the slower it will be closer to the bottom; Second, the angle between the rod and the water surface. The larger the angle, the closer the bait will be to the surface, and the smaller the angle, the more horizontal the bait will be. In the actual fishing process, according to the fish conditions to adjust the reeling speed and fishing rod and the angle of the water. Each time you make an adjustment, you must remember your maneuver, and if you catch a fish, you can repeat the maneuver in the following. If you are bank fishing, then one thing to note is that when the bait is close to the bank, be sure to raise the rod tip up and lift the bait closer to the surface, otherwise it is very easy to hang on obstacles such as rocks on the bank.
When maneuvering near the bottom, you need to pay attention to the difference between a hangnail and a bite, so that you can accurately catch the fish. When a fish is biting, you can still feel the pull of the fish without moving your hand or reeling in the line, whereas when it's hanging on the bottom, you can't move your hand without moving the line. The difference between the two is so subtle that it takes experience and reflexes to make an accurate judgment in the blink of an eye. During fishing, you can wait for a second to judge the mouth of the fish before stabbing it, otherwise if you stab it when it hangs on the bottom, the hook will be firmly stabbed into the obstacle, resulting in losses.
Before using the sequins, it's best to test them on the bank where you can see them, and roughly estimate how much the bait will sink in a second, then combine it with the current and fishing conditions at that time, and then retrieve the bait when it sinks to the pre-determined depth, and then lift the rod tip up when it reaches the bank to prevent it from hanging up on the bottom.
Three, the color of the sequins
When the weather is clear and sunny, the water in the fishing area is clear and visibility is high, I usually choose dark colors, such as black, dark green, yellow, dark gold, to reduce the strong reflection on the fish scare. On cloudy days, or when the water is cloudy and visibility is poor, I usually choose bright colors, such as silver, bright red, and colorful, to increase the chance of the sequins being spotted by the fish.
A final reminder, when you feel a fish try to mouth, pause a little bit to let the fish have a chance to fully on the bait. Whether the activity of the fish is high or low, you need to make some adjustments according to the fish conditions of the waters at that time. The first thing you need to do is to get some experience and form your own rhythm and baiting habits, after all, there's no such thing as a fixed method of baiting.
