What are the eight major wines?
The eight famous wines are Shanxi Fenjiu, Kweichow Moutai, Zhejiang Jianhu Shaoxing, Shaanxi xifeng liquor Daqu, Sichuan LU ZHOU LAO JIAO CO.,LTD, and brandy, vermouth and red wine produced by Yantai Changyu Brewing Company. About the origin of the eight famous wines in China, it first started at the wine tasting organized by 1952 China Monopoly Corporation in Beijing. Mr. Zhu Mei, who presided over the wine tasting, published "The Story of Eight Famous Wines" in the first issue of Brewing magazine on 1985, which recorded: "We only selected four kinds of white wine, one kind of yellow wine, one kind of brandy and one kind of wine from more than 200 kinds of wines. The analysis data of the wine we evaluated and the opinions on the wine were sent to the national monopoly meeting. These eight wines were unanimously approved at the national monopoly meeting after review and were designated as the eight famous wines. These eight wines are: Maotai, Luzhou Daqu, Fenjiu, xifeng liquor, Shaoxing Yellow Rice Wine, Changyu Gold Award Brandy, Red Rose Wine and Weimeisi Wine. Liquor, a common Chinese word, was first seen in Oracle Bone Inscriptions. The original meaning refers to alcoholic beverages fermented with starch or sugary substances such as grains and fruits, and can also be extended to a verb to refer to drinking.
