Some turtles are edible and there is no problem. They are available in many restaurants. However, some turtles are inedible and cannot be eaten to protect animals.
Notes on raising turtles:
1. The water used to raise turtles
It is best to use tap water that has been left to dry for more than 2 days (for the purpose of removing chlorine). Prepare 2 plastic buckets to dry, which can meet the water change needs. It is recommended to change the water in part every day. There is no need to change the water in the whole tank. Unless the water and the surrounding area of ??the tank are very dirty, it is necessary to change the water in the whole tank. When doing a partial water change, use a small plastic tube to suck out the dirty water at the bottom using the siphon principle, and then add the same volume of new water (that is, tap water that has been left to dry for 2 days) into the tank.
Turtles that change water in this way will not suffer from white eyes or nail rot. Of course, if you want to save work, you can change the water in the entire tank every day or once every few days, but there is no guarantee that the turtle will grow healthily.
2. Turtle food
Aquatic turtles are generally fed pork, beef, shrimps, small fish, and livers of poultry and fish. These foods must be chopped or shredded, and of course You can feed fish feed or turtle feed, but it is recommended not to feed feed as much as possible.
You only need to leave a little food when cooking to feed the turtle. There is no need to buy turtle food. It should be noted that when feeding shrimps and fish, remove the shrimp heads and fish bones to prevent the shrimp bones and fish bones from piercing the turtle's throat. Frozen food should be thawed and the temperature should be consistent with the water temperature before feeding to the turtle.
In summer, when the temperature is high, turtles have a fast metabolism. They can be fed once a day, but it is generally recommended to feed them once every other day, because turtles do not need to be fed too frequently. They are animals with a very slow metabolism. Of course, if you are very busy, it is no problem to feed them once every few days. They are very hungry animals. Even if you are traveling, as long as you ensure adequate water supply, they will be fine without eating for half a month, but it will be a bit aggrieved. Your baby is turtle.
When autumn comes in October, the turtle will not eat much and only eat once every few days. It is not until winter that the turtle begins to hibernate and stops eating. The amount of food a turtle is fed each time is usually enough for the size of their head and neck. However, turtles are very eatable. Since it may take them several days to find food in the wild, they are naturally able to eat a lot at one time. In case there is no need for food in the future, turtles have a huge appetite, so I suggest you not to accommodate them. Overeating them is not good for their health and will affect their lifespan.
3. Turtle breeding environment
The water depth for turtle breeding is generally slightly higher than the depth of the turtle's back, and does not need to be too deep (of course, some turtle lovers need to use filters or prefer high water levels. As a separate matter), it is best to provide a stone above the water for the turtle to climb up and bask on its back; the turtle needs sunlight. If it is kept completely indoors, it should be allowed to bask in the sun frequently, for more than ten minutes a day.
It is recommended to keep it in a place in the southeast where it can get sunlight for about 1-2 hours (it does not require long-term direct sunlight), and provide shading conditions (you can place a small wooden board on the top of the tank for partial shading) , to avoid heat stroke.
4. About hibernation
When the temperature drops below 13°C from October to November every year, the turtle will begin to hibernate until the temperature rises to 18°C ??from February to March. Hibernating turtles do not eat, they only sleep.
The simplest hibernation method is to move the turtle into a dark and quiet place indoors, hibernate in shallow water (water just above the carapace), and change the water once a month. Other than changing the water, try not to disturb the turtle. Pay attention to the temperature not falling below 6 degrees, otherwise the turtle's life will be endangered.
