How long does it take to soak glutinous rice wrapped in zongzi?
Many people who have experience in making zongzi know that we can't use glutinous rice directly when making zongzi, but we should soak glutinous rice in water for a period of time first. So how long will it take to soak glutinous rice before using it?
Usually, the glutinous rice should be soaked in clean water for at least four hours, so as to make the glutinous rice absorb enough water and release the sticky components inside it, which can make the rice dumplings more sticky and soft.
If conditions permit, we can also soak glutinous rice in water one day in advance. Here, we should control the amount of water to about twice that of glutinous rice, and change it every few hours, so that glutinous rice can absorb more water.
