Yangmei is the fruit of May. The time for picking bayberries is mostly around the Dragon Boat Festival. In areas with lower altitudes and higher temperatures, bayberries mature earlier. Otherwise it will be too late. However, due to different varieties, there are some differences in the maturity time. Some early-maturing varieties mature around April. In high mountain areas with an altitude of more than 1,000 meters, they mature relatively late. Some mature in the fifth month of the lunar calendar, and a few extend to the sixth month of the lunar calendar.

Yangmei is a spring fruit with many varieties, including water chestnut bayberry, Ding'ao bayberry, late rice bayberry, big-leaved bayberry, early water chestnut honey plum, early water chestnut honey plum, early water chestnut honey plum, and black bayberry. Crisp core bayberry and light-leaf bayberry, etc. Water chestnut and bayberry are mainly produced in Zhejiang, Ningbo and other places. The fruits are medium-large, oblate and soft in texture. Ding'ao bayberry is produced in Wenzhou and other places. The fruit has thick flesh, abundant juice and matures in mid-June.

The earliest ripening bayberry varieties: 1. Hengchun bayberry, which matures in December every year, is one of the earliest ripening bayberry varieties so far. 2. Early chestnut honey plum, this kind of fruit is oblate, relatively large, and purple-red in color. It is a new product jointly researched by Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Cixi Yangmei Research Institute. It matures in mid-to-early June and is one of the better varieties.

3. Crisp-core bayberry. This variety is produced in mountainous areas and is relatively rare, so not many people know about it. The maturity period of this fruit is in mid-to-late May, but the fruit of the bayberry is small and sour. Moderately sweet. 4. Dongkui Yangmei, this kind of Yangmei is produced in Zhejiang. Because of its relatively large fruit shape, it is also called "Giant Plum". The maturity period is early May, the fruit is purple-red, has moderate sweetness and sourness, and has a high yield.
