Fan Chengda (June 26, 1126-October 1, 1193? ), with the character Zhineng? , a word for young Yuan, in his early years he called himself This Mountain Jushi, and in his later years he was called Shihu Jushi. He was a Han Chinese, a native of Wu County, Pingjiang Province (present-day Suzhou, Jiangsu Province). He was a famous minister and writer of the Southern Song Dynasty.
The most valuable of Fan Chengda's poems are the poems on his journey to Jin and the idyllic poems. The seventy-two stanzas he wrote on his way to the Jin Dynasty, in which he recorded his own experiences and feelings in the fallen areas, were mainly about the destruction of the mountains and rivers in the fallen areas, the ravages suffered by the people of the Central Plains and their hope for restoration, and the relics of ancient patriotic heroes to express his determination to serve the country with his life and death.
The poems, such as Qingyuan Dian, Zhouqiao, and Shuangmiao, reflect the painful life of the people in the north and their national feelings. Most of the poems of Southern Song poets describing the Central Plains were out of imagination, but Fan Chengda was there in person, so his feelings were extraordinarily deep and his descriptions extraordinarily true, which made him unique among the patriotic-themed poems of his time.
