Slugs are a type of mollusk.
Slug is a collective name for animals in the gastropod class, stalk-eyed order, slug family, looks like a snail without a shell, the surface of the body has mucus and is very wet, it is a hermaphrodite, known as a slug in some areas of southern China, the common name is slug, best suited to survive in a dark and damp environment, which is conducive to its growth and development.
The adult of slug is 30 to 60 millimeters long and 4 to 6 millimeters wide when it is straightened out; the inner shell is 4 millimeters long and 2.3 millimeters wide, long pike-shaped, soft, smooth and without shell, and the surface of the body shows dark black, dark gray, yellowish-white, or grayish-red, and there are two pairs of tentacles, which are dark black, and the lower pair is shorter, about 1 millimeter, which is called the front antennae with sensory function; the upper pair is about 4 millimeters long, which is called the back The upper pair is about 4 millimeters long, called the posterior antennae, with eyes at the end, and a horny toothed tongue in the mouth.
Because slugs have horny jaws and tongues in their mouths for holding food and licking and scraping it, they are able to eat the leaves and growing points of young plant seedlings. Slugs mainly eat vegetable leaves, fruits and flower petals by nibbling them, causing holes to form in plant leaves or leaving the rinds of fruits incomplete, which seriously affects the normal development and growth of vegetables.
Life habits of slugs
Slugs have obvious avoidance of sunlight. At sunrise, slugs migrate and crawl the fastest, every 15 minutes the slugs move 65 centimeters, and quickly dive into the shade to hide. In a dark room, they can move around and feed day and night. Slugs often start their activities at night, and 23:00 to 3:00 at night is the peak time for slugs to feed.
Slugs are omnivores, and the leaves, flowers, fruits, young shoots, stems and roots of many plants can be used as their food. Slugs can eat dozens of kinds of plants. Often eat cucumbers, tomatoes, persimmon peppers, white june, rape, spinach, amaranth, potatoes, beans, peas, wheat, corn, cotton, tobacco and other plants. Especially like to eat young and juicy plants, but the hairy plants such as winter melon leaves, radish leaves, eggplant leaves are generally not eaten, with a volatile odor of onions, garlic and leeks, tomato leaves and so on have a tendency to avoid.
