Meat-shaped stone, a treasure of the Qing court, is 5.73 cm long, 6.6 cm wide and 5.3 cm thick. It exists in the National Palace Museum in Taipei. The origin of meat-shaped stone is a natural agate. Agate is influenced by impurities in the process of formation, showing different colors layer by layer. The craftsman who made this fleshy stone drilled a textured hole on the surface of the stone and dyed the stone skin on the surface to make this well-defined layer. The appearance resembles a fat Dongpo meat, so it is called "meat-shaped stone".
Meat-shaped stone, jade cabbage and Mao Dinggong are collectively called "the three treasures of the Forbidden City". However, jade cabbage and meat-shaped stone are important cultural relics in the classification of antiquities in the Forbidden City, second only to national treasures.
This is the highest level of jade processing technology in China.
