Original text and translation of the ancient poem Cold Food;

Original text:

In the late spring season, the city of Chang' an everywhere dance, with countless fallen flowers, the east wind of the cold food festival in the royal garden of the willow.

The night fell, and the palace was busy with candles, and the smoke wafted up into the house of the prince of Princes and marquises.

Translation:

There is no place in Chang 'an city in spring where falling flowers are flying. On the Cold Food Festival, the east wind tilted the wicker in the palace.

The cold food festival should have banned fire, but at dusk, candles were given in the palace to light the fire, and the light smoke of the candles was scattered in the house of Minister Jin Xing.

The artistic achievements of Cold Food;

There are three main artistic achievements of this poem:

First, the thoughts are dense and the structure is rigorous. The whole poem is only four sentences, but there are many turning points. From the content point of view, from writing scenery to chanting customs; From the perspective of space, from the imperial city to the imperial garden, and from the palace to the powerful family; From the time point of view, from day to dusk. From the emotional point of view, from peace to solemnity. These multiple twists and turns make the whole poem ups and downs in a short space.

Second, the words are exquisite and accurate. Such as the word "flying", "oblique", "biography" and "scattered", not only can't be replaced by themselves, but also take care of each other.

The third is intriguing. This poem only pays attention to the description of the cold food scene, without any comment. The poet's original intention is not necessarily ridicule, but the image he captures is very typical, which makes the reader understand more than the work.

Because the author did not deliberately seek for depth, but was immersed in touching his own image and emotion, he wrote poetry, which made the poem more subtle and full of emotion, which was better than many deliberately satirical works.
