Zengcheng Gualv first appeared in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, with a history of more than 400 years. Its pulp was crisp and sweet, coagulated fat without overflowing pulp, so it became famous and even became a tribute to the emperor. However, at the end of the Qing Dynasty, due to the harassment of corrupt officials, the people could not bear the burden and cut down all the green lychees. In the end, there was only one tree left, which was the existing green mother tree in Zengcheng.
Later, due to various factors, this ancient tree gradually weakened year by year, and no fruit was harvested. Fortunately, before withering, scientific and technological personnel took measures to make the tree head sprout new buds before it was preserved. And this mother tree was used for grafting and circling branches, and thousands of descendants were cultivated, so now Zengcheng is no longer just a tree.
Extended data:
Zengcheng Gualv litchi originated in Zengcheng, Guangdong Province, and is a famous specialty of Zengcheng City. Zengcheng Gualv Litchi is named because its shell is as red as cinnabar and its lower green as clear waves, and it is regarded as a treasure in Litchi by the world because of its "crystal flesh, bright white jade, crisp texture, sweet and slightly fragrant".
According to legend, Shangshu Zhanruoshui of the Ming Dynasty returned to Guangdong from Fengting, the famous hometown of litchi in Fujian, and cultivated a famous litchi species "Shangshuhuai" in Guangdong, and his descendants cultivated "hanging green".
By the end of Xuantong, there was only one rare person in Xiyuan County. The fruit of this tree was 37 kg in 1955, and then the yield decreased due to "old age", until the last branch withered in 1979. Fortunately, the old tree head sprouted new branches and re-fruited in the 1990s.
