There are two ways to plant yam, one is to plant it with seed potatoes, and the other is to plant it with flowering seeds. The planting time is in the hometown of Qixing old farmers. Generally, the seeds are planted in early April and can be transplanted in early May, with a growth and development period of more than four months.
Yam belongs to Dioscorea zingiberensis, and its planting time is different because of different climatic conditions in different places. In the hometown of seven-star farmers in rural areas, yam is usually planted with seeds. Because the seeds germinate slowly, they should be planted one month in advance, usually in early April, and they can only be transplanted and planted until early May. By mid-August, yam vines will blossom and bear fruit. At this time, if people plant with seeds, it will be the end of September. Some fruits were picked from vines, dried and stored, and planted in the next spring and summer. Some people planted them directly with yam. They cut the yam into 10cm with a knife, mixed some plant ash on the incision, put it in the soil to germinate and grow seedlings, and then transplanted.
There are only three ways to prevent yam from bearing seeds after it is planted and blossomed. One is manual intervention, the other is drug control, and the third is nitrogen fertilizer control. If yam is not planted and bears seeds, the first way is to intervene by manually removing its male flowers, so that the female flowers on the vine cannot pollinate and will not bear seeds, right?
It is a troublesome job to remove the male flowers from the branches of yam vines. It must be removed once a week, and the picked male flowers should be taken out in baskets. If they are thrown on the ground, bees can still pollinate and bear fruit.
The second way to plant yam is to take drug control, which is to use chlormequat chloride mixed with water to spray yam vines to control the growth of yam vines, so that they will not bloom and seed, right?
In order to plant yam, the last way is to apply more fertilizers with high nitrogen content to yam vines, which can promote the growth of yam vines and achieve the purpose of not flowering and bearing seeds.
Therefore, I personally think that planting yam vines should prevent them from bearing seeds. One way is to manually remove the male flowers on the vines, so that the female flowers can't pollinate, and they will only blossom and not bear seeds.
The second way is to control the growth of Chinese yam vines by spraying chlormequat with water in sunny days during the growth period of Chinese yam seedlings and vines, which can also achieve the purpose of only flowering and not bearing seeds.
The third way is to add high-content nitrogen fertilizer during the growth period of yam vines, which can promote the growth of yam vines and delay the flowering time. When the yam is ripe and harvested, it will be useless for them to bloom again, and even the vines will be cut off and died.
