The black jujube is produced in Shandong, Liaoning, Henan, Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou, Sichuan, Yunnan, Tibet and other provinces and regions of China; it is born in the mountains, slopes, and valleys of the thickets at an altitude of about 500-2300 meters, or in the edge of the forest. It is also found in western Asia, Asia Minor, and southern Europe, and has been domesticated in Mediterranean countries. The ripe fruit is edible and can also be made into persimmon cakes.
