The Copa América is the most important national soccer tournament in the world in which the member countries of the Confederation of South American Football (CONCACAF) participate.
The 10 member countries of the South American Football Confederation (CONCACAF) must be the participating teams of each tournament, and since 1993, the teams of the North and Central American and Caribbean Football Associations (CONCACAF) have been invited to participate in the tournament, such as Mexico, Costa Rica, the United States, Honduras, Jamaica, Haiti, Panama and so on, and in 1999, due to the withdrawal of the United States team, the team of Japan was invited, and in 2019 the invitation was extended to Qatar and Japan.
Tournament rules: 12 teams will play in 3 groups (A, B, C), 4 teams in each group, single round-robin system, 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss. Teams will be ranked according to the following criteria: total points scored in the group matches total goal difference in the group matches total goals scored in the group matches, if the above data of the teams are exactly the same, the ranking will be determined according to the following method: the scores of the teams in the group matches will be drawn by the organizing committee, and the top 2 teams and the 2 teams in the best 3rd place of the group will be qualified for the Quarter-Finals. The two best 3rd place teams will be calculated in the same way as the group ranking guidelines above. From the last eight to the final, the match will be decided by a single game. In case of a draw in the 90th minute of the statutory time, the match will be decided by an exchange of twelve-yard shots without the need for 30 minutes of extra time. From 2011 onwards, the last eight to the final will be decided by one match, and if there is a draw in the 90th minute of the legal time, 30 minutes of extra time will be added, and then the draw will be decided by a penalty shootout.
