Also known as pomegranate root bark (Extract Yuan Fang) and sour pomegranate root (Compendium).

The source is the root bark of pomegranate, a pomegranate family. Mining in autumn, avoid using iron.

The original shape is detailed in pomegranate peel strips.

The dry root bark is irregularly curled or flat. The outer surface is yellowish brown and rough, with dark brown scaly cork, and there are spots after falling off. The inner surface is dark brown. The broken surface does not show the inner layer of bolt. Slight breath and astringent taste. The skin is intact, and the yellow color is better. Some places also use bark as medicine.

Pomegranate root bark contains isoproterenol, β -sitosterol and mannitol.

Pomegranate bark contains alkaloids such as isopomegranate rinine, pseudopomegranate rinine and methyl isopomegranate rinine. The existence of so-called pomegranate rinine in early literature has not been confirmed, which may be isopomegranate rinine. Bark still contains β-sitosterol, unfettered terpene, ursolic acid, carbinol O.50％%, sorbitol about1%,glycerol 0.05%, sugar 3.56% and organic acid19.7%. The dry skin contains about 0.34% boron.

The essential part of pomegranate contains 0.21%alkaloid. Most alkaloids in pomegranate roots exist in combination with tannins.

1 insect repellent effect

Granodine has a strong killing effect on tapeworms. Granodine hydrochloride at1:10000 can kill tapeworms in 5 ~10 minutes, but it has an exciting effect on tapeworms at1:50000. Later, it was proved that this active ingredient was actually isoproterenol. The anthelmintic effect of pseudopomegranate rinine is uncertain. Fresh pomegranate peel contains a lot of tannins. Clinical observation shows that the combination of alkaloids with tannins is better than that of those without tannins. This is because tannins can make alkaloids become insoluble and thus difficult to absorb compounds, which can fully play a role in intestinal parasites. Pomegranate peel has been replaced by better drugs because of its great toxicity.

2 antibacterial effect

In vitro tests on staphylococcus aureus, hemolytic streptococcus, Vibrio cholerae, Shigella, typhoid and paratyphoid bacilli. Proteus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and mycobacterium tuberculosis have obvious inhibitory effects. It also has inhibitory effect on a variety of pathogenic fungi. Its antibacterial effect may be related to its large amount of tannin.

3 antiviral effect

First, the liquid medicine was injected into the allantoic cavity of chicken embryo, and then the influenza virus (PR8 strain A) was inoculated half an hour later or the virus was inoculated first and then the medicine was injected. 4 Other functions

Female rats or guinea pigs can reduce the pregnancy rate after taking pericarp powder. Irrigation of root bark water extract can promote blood coagulation in rabbits.
