The earliest detailed record of the connection between the Dragon Boat Festival and Qu Yuan in history is the mythical novel Continued Harmony written by Wu Yun, a native of Nanliang in the Southern and Northern Dynasties: "On May 5th, Qu Yuan threw water at Miluo, and the Chu people mourned it. Today, rice is stored in bamboo tubes as a sacrifice. "
Qu Yuan's Dragon Boat Festival Story:
In 278 BC, the capital of Chu was attacked by Qin Jun, and Qu Yuan felt like a knife, unwilling to be a slave. On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, he wrote his last poem, Huai Sha, and resolutely threw himself into the Miluo River.
People heard that Qu Yuan jumped into the river and immediately rowed for rescue, but no body of Qu Yuan was found. People are heartbroken. In memory of Qu Yuan, people rowed boats on the river, which later became a dragon boat race. People were worried that the fish and shrimp in the river would eat Qu Yuan's body, so they quickly threw the prepared rice balls into the Miluo River, which later developed into a folk custom of eating zongzi on the Dragon Boat Festival.
