Blood meal is a kind of good animal protein feed which is processed from the waste blood of animals after slaughtering. Drying method and temperature are the main factors affecting the nutritional value of blood meal, sustained high temperature will cause a large number of lysine denaturation, affecting the utilization rate. Usually the quality of blood meal dried by instant drying and spray drying is better, while the quality of steam drying is worse. The crude protein content of blood meal is very high, up to 80% to 90%, but the amino acid composition is not good, lysine and leucine content is very high, respectively, 7% to 8% and 8%, arginine content is very low. Therefore, blood meal and peanut cake meal, cottonseed (kernel) cake meal with can improve the quality of feed. The isoleucine content of blood meal is very little, almost zero. Also, methionine and tryptophan content is low. Vitamins, calcium and phosphorus are low, and iron, copper, zinc and selenium are high, with the iron content being the highest of all feeds.
Despite the high protein content of blood meal, the digestive utilization rate is not high; blood meal has a special fishy flavor, which has a great impact on palatability. Blood meal without deodorization should not be used to feed rabbits. Treated blood meal can be added 1% to 3% in the diet of meat rabbits.
