Belly-wrapped chicken, as its name implies, refers to the whole chicken wrapped in the pig's stomach for cooking, euphemistically called: Phoenix reborn.
The allusion of "Fishbone Sword" unexpectedly inspired many delicious dishes later.
During the Spring and Autumn Period, Wu Wangliao liked to eat fish, and Guan Gong, the son of Wu (later He Lv, the king of Wu), attempted to assassinate Wu Wangliao. Zhuan Xu, an assassin recommended by Wu Zixu, knew Wu Wangliao's hobby and taught himself to roast fish. When the time is right, Wu Wangliao will be invited home for dinner, and Wu Wangliao will take preventive measures. No one can carry a weapon at the party.
At the climax of the banquet, Zhuan Xu sent the grilled fish to the water, suddenly pulled out a sword from the fish's belly and stabbed Wu Wangliao in the chest. Wu Wangliao died because of a dish. "Fish hide the sword" relies on the special dish of grilled fish, and this "stuffing" has inspired the production of many dishes in the back.
Cao Xueqin once created a fermented dish called "old mussels with pearls", which was made by peeling cooked bird eggs with spices and putting them into the belly of mandarin fish, frying the mandarin fish into deep yellow, and then adding seasonings to burn them. Similar practices have been passed down to this day, and the "chicken wrapped in belly" we introduced today, also known as "the fetus hides the phoenix", has a deep origin with this practice.
