The weather is cold and changeable, if the tongue is red, be careful of the "strawberry tongue" strange! The doctor said, the tongue taste buds red or tongue moss bottom white, most of the bacteria or viruses caused, clinically, preferred in pre-school children, and most of the "scarlet fever" or "Kawasaki disease" disease unique phenomenon. Although there is currently no large-scale epidemic, good habits, washing hands frequently, and drinking more water are still the best way to stay away from the "strawberry tongue".

The tongue is red, so beware of the body's warning signs. The doctor said, tongue taste buds red or tongue moss bottom white, most of the virus caused. (

Dr. Huang Gao-Bin, director of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Children's Hospital of China Medical University, pointed out that "strawberry tongue" is often seen in the early stages of scarlet fever, or patients suffering from "Kawasaki disease". The reason for the redness of the tongue in scarlet fever is that the A streptococcus virus secretes a red toxin that causes a localized rash or erythema on the skin all over the body.

The Children's Hospital of China Medical University admitted a 13-year-old child early this year, who came to the clinic with a fever, and appeared to have a very obvious strawberry tongue, a whitish appearance around the mouth, an obvious horizontal line at the bend of the elbow, and skin that felt like sandpaper, all of which are very standard features of scarlet fever.

Because "scarlet fever" can be transmitted through droplets or contact, there is often a fever, throat redness and swelling, and other flu-like symptoms; clinically, there is often a white tongue moss bottom, tongue taste buds *** hypertrophied red, strawberry-like features. Although it will not be painful, but the fever symptoms are obvious, available antibiotics to relieve. So remind the public must develop a diligent hand washing, and do a good job of personal hygiene and other habits, in order to prevent the disease to find the door.

Scarlet fever and Kawasaki disease symptoms are similar

In addition to the rare "Kawasaki disease" is prone to "red tongue" clinical symptoms, although the cause of the disease is still unknown, but the general suspicion of more than a viral infection related to the majority of the children in the five years of age, and most of them occur in the children; clinical symptoms, including a high fever lasted for more than five days, and the oral mucosa red. The clinical symptoms include a high fever lasting more than 5 days, redness of the oral mucosa, strawberry tongue, red lips, dryness, cracking and even bleeding, enlarged lymph glands in the neck, and a variety of skin rashes and peeling all over the body.

Dr. Huang Gao-Bin emphasized that Kawasaki disease usually improves within 2 weeks, but a small number of children with the disease will develop coronary artery disease, which, if left untreated, may lead to enlargement of the coronary arteries into an aneurysm, which may lead to myocardial infarction or even sudden death. However, in recent years, due to early detection and treatment advances, the mortality rate of children with Kawasaki disease in Taiwan has been reduced to about 0.03%.

However, it is worth noting that the initial symptoms of scarlet fever are similar to those of Kawasaki disease, which can be misdiagnosed. Parents and primary care pediatricians should be alert to the fact that if a child has a persistent high fever, in addition to the "strawberry tongue" which is a clinical diagnostic indicator, further tests should be done to determine the diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible.
