The yellow catfish (scientific name: Pelteobagrus fulvidraco) is a common freshwater fish in the family Luridae, genus Pelteobagrus. The body is prolonged, slightly stout, with the muzzle end sloping upward toward the dorsal fin and laterally compressed at the back. The head is slightly large and longitudinally flattened, and the dorsum of the head is largely bare. The dorsal view of the muzzle is bluntly rounded. Mouth large. Eyes equal in size. Nasal whiskers located on anterior margin of posterior nostril, extending to or beyond posterior margin of eye. Gill pores large, extending forward to ventral surface vertically below middle of eye. Dorsal fin small, with bony spines, anterior margin smooth. Adipose fin short, base located from posterior end of dorsal fin base to anterior to center of caudal fin base. Anal fin base long, starting point located just before the beginning of the adipose fin vertically below. Pectoral fins laterally inferior, bony sclerotized spines with fine and numerous serrations on anterior margin. Ventral fin short, terminating in anal fin. Anus approximately equal to distance from beginning of anal fin and distance from posterior end of ventral fin base. Caudal fin y forked, rounded at end. Dorsal surface blackish brown in viviparous, fading to light yellow on the abdomen. A narrow yellow longitudinal band above and below along lateral line, and a yellow transverse band about above ventral and anal fins, interlacing to form intermittent dark longitudinal patches
