There is erythema on the upper edge of the eye, hence the name red eye and red-eyed fish.

The shad body is spindle-shaped, with a flat side, a round abdomen and no abdominal ribs, and its back slightly bulges in front of the dorsal fin. The head is short, the kiss is round and blunt, and the kiss length is slightly larger than the eye diameter. The lateral position of the eyes is very wide between them. The lower mouth is curved, the upper and lower jaws are keratinized, and there are upper lips and kissing skin outside the upper jaw. The upper body is bluish gray and the abdomen is silvery white. There are 8-9 scales behind the base of the pectoral fin on the body side, and the base is black, which together form a long diamond-shaped plaque.

Fourth, different reproductive habits.

The red-eyed trout matures early, and the second-year-old fish matures. The breeding season is usually from April to September. Eggs are light green and heavy. The breeding period of shad is long, generally starting in April and May, and can be extended to August and September, and most of them lay eggs in flood season.
