The thorn mustard alias: fragrant thorn caper, thread caper, four-pronged pole artemisia, pseudo-sow, is a perennial plant in the family Labiatae, genus thorn mustard. The stem is strong, woody at the base, much branched, 40-150 cm tall, nearly 4-angled at the base, obtusely 4-angled at the upper part, shallowly grooved, white pubescent.

Inflorescences cymose, the lower ones axillary, the upper ones forming continuous or interrupted, more laxly or very densely terminal branched panicles, the cymes dichotomously branched; bracts leaflike, or the upper ones reduced and lanceolate, bracts, bracteoles subulate, minute.

Calyx tubular at flowering, ca. 6 mm long, 1.2 mm in diameter, outside white pubescent, inside surface only calyx teeth sparsely bristly, teeth conical, 1.5-2 mm long, posterior teeth longer, calyx enlarged after flowering in urns, longitudinal ribs well defined. Nutlets ovate, several trigonous, gray-brown, ca. 1.7 mm long, ca. 1 mm in diameter.

Growth Habitat

Thornbeam is very adaptable, love sunshine. Sunshine, more growth in a warm and humid environment, the soil requirements are not strict, the general soil can be planted, but to grow in loose, fertile soil is better, high temperature and rainy season is afraid of stagnant water, short-term waterlogging will cause death.

Seeds are easy to germinate, germination is not strict on the temperature requirements, seeds can germinate at 15 ~ 20 ℃, the growth of the appropriate temperature of 20 ~ 25 ℃, seedlings can withstand low temperatures of about 0 ℃. The thorns are resistant to high temperatures, more resistant to cold, but below -2 ℃ there will be frost damage, avoid continuous cultivation.

Thorn mustard seedling period requires moist soil, afraid of drought and water shortage. Seedling period like dry environment, more rain is poor growth.
