The nature and flavor are sweet, pungent and slightly cold. Enters the lung, spleen, stomach and large intestine meridians.
Efficacy and Indications
1. Relieve superficial rash. This product is light and clear and can be powdered. It can expel evil in the lung meridian and dissipate wind from the muscles and joints. However, it is not as powerful as dispersing wind and relieving superficial rash. Ephedra, Guizhi, Schizonepeta, and Fangfeng are generally used less frequently for superficial symptoms. Taking its power of ascending and dispersing, it is often used for people with measles who have difficulty in spreading the disease, are accompanied by diarrhea, or when the rash is poisonous, and often used together with Pueraria lobata, such as Cimicifuga Pueraria lobata decoction.
2. Clear away heat and detoxify stomach heat, relieve thirst, bad breath, sore mouth and tongue, gum swelling or ulceration. It is often used with gypsum, coptis, achyranthes root, dendrobium, etc.; used for stomach fire. If the throat is red, swollen and painful, and has difficulty swallowing, it is often combined with mountain beans, mint, burdock, scrophulariaceae, etc.
3. To lift Yang Qi, it is used for qi deficiency, fever, chronic diarrhea, anal prolapse, and uterine prolapse. It is often used with astragalus, Codonopsis pilosula, Bupleurum, etc., such as Buzhong Yiqi Decoction; used for cases where Qing Yang is not rising. Headache, tinnitus, nucleation or redness, swelling and pain on the head and face caused by turbid yin that does not fall but rises are often combined with Atractylodes, lotus leaves, etc.
Dosage: 3~10g, decoction or take in pill form. Because this product has strong lifting and dispersing power, the general dosage should not be too large. It should be used by roasting to lift Yang Qi, and it should be used raw to clear away heat and detoxify, and relieve superficial rash.
Contraindicated for use in patients with yin deficiency and excessive fire, measles, rising liver yang, and undesirable qi.
Note: Cimicifuga mainly has the functions of lifting and clearing hair, clearing away heat and detoxifying. Its lifting and clearing function is similar to that of Bupleurum and Pueraria, but stronger. When paired with Bupleurum, it is used for lifting. Pueraria lobata is used to treat rash. It has good heat-clearing and detoxifying effects, which is its characteristic. It can be used with coptis and gypsum to treat stomach fire and toothache, and it can be used with skullcap, forsythia, burdock, isatis root, etc. to treat head and face erysipelas.
