Hongze Lake is the fourth largest freshwater lake in China. It is located in the lower reaches of Huaihe River in the west of Jiangsu, on the west side of the central part of Subei Plain, and in Huai 'an and Suqian. It was called Fuling Lake in ancient times and broken kettle pond after Han Dynasty. It was called Hongze Lake in the Tang Dynasty. Hongze Lake is rich in resources and has a long history. It is not only a large reservoir and shipping hub in the Huaihe River basin, but also a production base for fisheries, specialties and livestock products.

Hongze Lake is the second largest lake in Jiangsu Province, located in the lower reaches of Huaihe River in the west of Jiangsu Province, in Huai 'an and Suqian, belonging to the Huaihe River system. Hongze Lake covers an area of about 2069 square kilometers. There are many reasons for the formation of Hongze Lake. First, it is a "tectonic lake" formed by crustal fault depression. Before the Tang and Song Dynasties, it was a series of lakes distributed along the fault zone.

Finally, after the Hongze Lake levee was built due to human factors, a huge Hongze Lake was finally formed.

There are fish, turtles, shrimps and crabs, chickens, ducks, geese, birds and various aquatic plants in Hongze Lake.
