The fish pictured here is a batfish, Ogcocephalus vespertilio. Long-nosed batfish Ogcocephalus vespertilio
Batfishes have a rounded or triangular body plate, a flat ventral surface, a very flat body and head, and some species have a protruding muzzle on the head. The skin is hard and densely covered with bony plates or sharp spines. The jaws are toothed, and the anterior part of the head has a groove containing the muzzle tentacles, which are attached to a short stalk (i.e., the first sclerotized spine) that extends to the front of the mouth; this sclerotized spine is the only part of the dorsal fins, and the soft strips are located at the back of the body. The anal fin is slightly posterior to the anus, the pectoral fins are brachycephalic, and the ventral fins are located on the ventral surface of the head.
