The pike has a slender body, a slightly flat side and a short tail handle. The tip of the head and the snout are particularly long and flat, like duckbills. The mouth crack is extremely wide, and the corner of the mouth can extend backwards to half the length of the head.

The teeth are well developed, and there are conical sharp teeth of different sizes on the upper and lower jaws, vomer, ethmoid and tongue. Its teeth are different. The teeth of the upper jaw can be stretched and connected by ligaments. This kind of sharp teeth can hang the captured animals, and sometimes the food that can't be eaten can be hung on the teeth for later use. The scales are small and the lateral lines are not obvious. The dorsal fin is located on the back, close to the caudal fin, opposite to the gluteal fin, and the pectoral fin and ventral fin are smaller. The back and sides are grayish green or greenish brown, scattered in many black spots, and the abdomen is grayish white. There are also many small black spots on dorsal fin, gluteal fin and caudal fin, and the rest are gray.
