(a) Plant form Nutmeg is a perennial herb of the ginger family. It grows in clusters, 1 to 2 meters high. The rhizome is stout, brown. Leaves are biseriate, shortly petiolate, leaf blade lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, apex acuminate, base cuneate, entire, leaf surface smooth or hirsute, leaf abaxial sparsely hairy or glabrous; leaf sheaths membranous, open, clasping. Racemes terminal, flowers white, inner surface slightly purplish red spotted. Capsule spherical, outside densely hirsute, yellow when ripe.
(ii) Growth habit Nutmeg is a plant that grows in subtropics. Like warm, moist environment, not cold, slightly shade. The soil requirements are not strict, but the plant grows well in fertile, deep, moist sandy loam.
