Hangzhou, referred to as "Hangzhou" for short, was called Lin 'an and Qiantang in ancient times. It is a prefecture-level city, provincial capital, sub-provincial city, megacity and the core city of Hangzhou metropolitan area under the jurisdiction of Zhejiang Province. It is the economic, cultural, scientific and educational center of Zhejiang Province approved by the State Council and one of the central cities in the Yangtze River Delta.

The Liangzhu culture in Yuhang 5,111 years ago was hailed as "the dawn of civilization".
the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties in Hangzhou belong to "the territory of Yangzhou". Legend has it that during Xia Yu's flood control, the whole country was divided into Kyushu, and the vast area south of the Yangtze River was generally called Yangzhou. In the 21th century BC, Xia Yu made a southern tour, and Yu Huiji (now Shaoxing), the governor of the conference, sailed through here by boat and left his Hangzhou ("Hangzhou" is the ark) here, hence the name "Yuhang".
As soon as it was said, Yu built a boat here to cross the river, and the Yue people called this place "Yuhang". Later, according to oral tradition, Yu was wrongly called "Yu" and was named "Yuhang". During the Spring and Autumn Period, Wu State and Yue State competed for hegemony. Hangzhou belonged to Yue State first, then to Wu State, and then to Yue after the destruction of Wu State. During the Warring States Period, the State of Chu destroyed Yue, and Hangzhou was returned to Chu.
