Squirrel fish, the scientific name of which is green-finned horse-faced bream, is also known as horse-faced fish, elephant-skinned fish, diligent color, cobbler's knife, bread fish, grilled fish, peeled fish, sheep fish, rat fish, ground fish and Shameng.
Warm water pelagic fish. Since 1980s, it has been the second most important economic fish in China's marine fishing. Distributed in the East China Sea, the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea, and also found in Korea, the Sea of Japan and the Northwest Pacific Ocean.
Living in the open sea floor, inhabiting the sea area with water depth of 50 ~120m. The optimum temperature range is 13 ~ 20℃, and the optimum temperature is 14 ~ 17℃. Like to gather in groups, they have obvious vertical movement during wintering and spawning, generally floating during the day and sinking at night. Omnivorous, the main food is copepods, isopods, ostracods and other planktonic crustaceans, but also eat mollusks and corals.
Morphological characteristics:
The body is very flat and rectangular. The side view of the head is triangular, the upper edge is straight and the kiss is long and sharp. Small mouth, front position. There are two rows of teeth and 1 row of teeth in the upper and lower jaws respectively, which are all cut. The branchial foramen is large and outward. The scale is very small, with several rows of small thorns on it, which are directly born on the substrate. There are two dorsal fins, and the first dorsal fin has two fin spines. The first fin spines start from above the pupil. The gluteal fin and the second dorsal fin are relative and isomorphic. The two ventral fins degenerate into short spines, which are connected to the end of the belt and cannot move. The caudal fin is round. The body is blue-gray and the second dorsal fin, anal fin and caudal fin are green.
