Chinese characters have a history of more than 6,111 years, and they are the longest-used characters in the world without faults. Chinese characters are the only characters that have been passed down to this day and only survived. The derivatives of Chinese characters, such as Vietnamese characters, Xixia characters, Jurchen characters and Khitan characters, have died out, while Japanese only partially retains Chinese characters. Modern Chinese characters are divided into traditional characters and simplified characters.
